About Us

The Women Cell has been created with the aim of promoting gender equality, ensuring the well-being and safety of female students, and addressing any issues or concerns they may face on campus. We believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

The Women’s cell in Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University is an initiative dedicated to promoting gender equality, legal awareness and women’s empowerment within this institution and wider community. It will serves as a platform for female students and women in the community to gain knowledge about their rights, under the legal mechanisms, and address issues of discrimination and injustice. Through educational programs, legal aid outreach, and advocacy efforts, the Women’s cell aims to build an informed, confident, and empowered group of women who can assert their legal rights and contribute to a more equitable society.

Objectives

Ensuring Safety & Support:To provide a secure working and learning environment, addressing complaints of sexual harassment or discrimination in a time-bound manner, typically according to legal guidelines.

Women Empowerment:To foster self-esteem, confidence, and leadership qualities in women, enabling them to make informed decisions in education, career, and life.

Gender Sensitization:To create awareness about gender equality, women's rights, and legal rights through workshops, seminars, and campaigns.

Health and Wellness:To promote the physical, mental, and reproductive health of women.

Skill Development:To organize activities, workshops, and training sessions that enhance social, economic, and technical capacities.

Inclusivity & Grievance Redressal:To act as a formal mechanism for redressal of grievances and ensure equal opportunities for female students, faculty, and staff.

Functions and Responsibilities

  • To sensitize the community at large towards gender related issues and to take such measures as would be necessary to create gender sensitivity on the campus.
  • To conduct orientation programs for new students and employees.
  • To conduct personality development program.
  • To organize awareness program for health and hygienic, women’s self-defence and self-protection.
  • To suggest measures for providing a safe working environment for women on the campus and to recommend actions to be taken by the institute from time to time in order to deter the commission of any acts of sexual harassment and gender discrimination in any form.
  • To organize workshops and awareness programmes at regular intervals for sensitizing students and staff members of the institute with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention prohibition and Redressal) act 2013
  • To offer advice on available courses of action to an aggrieved women on campus if she approaches the Women Cell.

The Women’s cell shall meet as frequently as it may deem appropriate, but it shall mandatorily meet at least once in every six months. Before completion of the tenure, the Women’s Cell shall submit a terminal report to the Dean dwelling upon the important initiatives made/recommended by them. Inquiries into specific complaints shall continue to be in the exclusive domain of the Internal Complaint Committee constituted by the institute under the provisions of the aforementioned Act.
